Follow these instructions only if you know what you are doing.
These instructions can actually downgrade certain BlackBerry’s abilities (i.e. permanent loss of support for Bluetooth keyboards) if your BlackBerry actually does not already have an IT policy installed. These instructions are meant as a last resort to regain BlackBerry capabilities, in the event your BlackBerry is encumbered by a restrictive leftover IT policy after removal from a BES. (i.e. eBay purchased BlackBerry)

Removing IT Policy.

This is a How-To for removing IT policy from your BB. In essence, what this does is apply a blank IT policy to the device. The blank IT policy does, unfortunatly, leave some IT policy firewalls in place, however. For instance “keystroke injection” is set by default to “deny” on most IT policies. This blank policy won’t give back “allow” for this feature. This becomes a problem if you desire to use a Bluetooth keyboard. You’ll be unable to use the keyboard. If a way is found to get this back then I’ll edit this post accordingly. A quick check to see if your BB is under IT policy can be done by going to Options/Security on your Device. If you see any references to IT Policy whatsoever, then you have a potentially restrictive IT Policy that can be removed.

The Disclaimer/Intended Use.

This guide is intended for use by people that own their own Blackberry, and for whatever reason, have inherited a company’s IT policy on their device. Really, there are two scenarios where this guide is useful. You bought a Blackberry on eBay and are unable to make changes to the settings or install Third Party Applications. You have a Blackberry that was previously connected to a company’s BES and, for whatever reason, you no longer intend to connect to that BES.
Important: If you’re still connected to a company BES, and simply want to install the latest and greatest third party application I would not recommend this approach. Talk to your BES administrators and ask them to grant you the appropriate rights. There are two problems in using this guide to bypass your company’s security policy. First, whenever you reconnect to the company server, your security settings will revert back to how they were. Second, and perhaps more importantly, you run the risk of getting fired.

Procedure:

1. Ensure the Blackberry Desktop Manager is installed using Blackberry Internet Service, and not Blackberry Enterprise Server. If you are unsure, it would probably be a good idea to uninstall the Desktop Manager and start again. If you don’t have the CD that came with your Blackberry, the Software can be downloaded here.
2. Download the file policy.bin and save it in your Blackberry installation directory (C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry).
3. Wipe your Blackberry, creating a backup if necessary. Select Options/Security/Wipe on the Device. If this option is unavailable, you may have to install the latest software on your Blackberry. You need to Download and install the latest OS for your device. Connect your device, open the Desktop Manager, select Application Loader, and follow the prompts.
4. Close the Desktop Manager if it is open.
5. Step 5
   

* From the Windows XP Start Menu select Run…, and at the prompt type regedit. In the tree on the left hand side, navigate to:
* HKEY_Current_Users\Software\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\PolicyManager
* Right-Click the Policy Manager Folder and select New/String Value. Name the value Path. Now, Double-Click the Path Subkey and set Value Data to:
* C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\policy.bin
6. Open the Desktop Manager.
7. Connect the Device. Verification

Once complete, the Options/Security screen on your Blackberry should not contain references to an IT Policy, you should now be able to change all settings (including password prompts), and install Third Party Applications.

How To Unlock BlackBerry Bold 9000

This article will teach you how to retrieve the unlock code and enter it into your Blackberry 9000-series phone AKA BlackBerry Bold so that it may be used with any cellular network SIM card.

Step 1
First, you need to get your Blackberry's IMEI code. This is a unique identifier of your phone, like a serial number. You can access this code from your phone: 1) Turn your phone on. 2) Click on the "Phone" icon. 3) Enter the following symbols: *#06# 4) After entering the final # symbol, a message will appear displaying your IMEI number. It is a 15-digit number in the format XXXXXX.XX.XXXXXX.X

Step 2
Second, you have to get the unlock code. This can be purchased on the internet, or you may call your cellular provider. Either way, they will ask for the IMEI code which you determined in step one of this tutorial. Move on to step 3 when you have received your unlock code.

Step 3
Follow these instructions exactly to unlock your phone:
1. Make sure your SIM card is NOT inserted into the device.
2. Turn on the phone and click the "Manage Connections" icon.
3. Choose the option "Turn off all connections."
4. The cellular radio will be turned off.
5. Go back to the Home screen and click the "Options" icon and select "Advanced Options."
6. Scroll down and select "SIM Card" from the list.
7. Press the following keys in order: (M) (E) (P) (E)

How to Transfer Blackberry Contacts to an iPhone

1. Transfer contacts from the Blackberry address book to Outlook on your computer (or Windows Mail).
2. Sync your iPhone with your computer using iTunes, which will transfer the contacts from Outlook to your iPhone.

Make sure that both the Blackberry Desktop Manager and iTunes are installed on your system, and that your Blackberry is connected to your computer with a usb data cable.

Part1. Transfer contacts from a Blackberry to Outlook
Run the Blackberry Desktop Manager program and click "Synchronize" from the main menu screen. Select "Synchronization" below the Configuration menu option to get to the Synchronization Configuration screen.

There you'll click the "Synchronization" button to configure the synchronization settings. You'll be asked to choose the device applications to synchronize. Choose "Address Book", and then choose "Outlook". If you don't have Outlook on your system, then you can choose "Windows Mail" instead.

Next you'll configure how you want to sync your contacts, either bi-directionally or just from your blackberry to Outlook (which is the option I chose):

Click the "Synchronize" button to copy the contacts from your Blackberry to your Outlook contacts. You can open Outlook after the sync has completed, and you should see your Blackberry addresses in your Outlook contacts folder.

Part2. Transfer contacts from Outlook to an iPhone
You can import Outlook contacts to your iPhone by syncing your iPhone with iTunes. Plug your iPhone into your computer and wait for iTunes to automatically launch (or run iTunes from the Start menu if necessary). Select your iPhone in iTunes, select the Info tab, and then click the checkboxes to sync your contacts. Choose Outlook as the application to sync with. Click Apply, then click Sync.

This will copy the contacts from Outlook over to your iPhone. Remember however, that you can only sync your iPhone with one computer at a time. If you later decide to sync with another computer, your contacts will be erased. Our work here is finished, and your Blackberry contacts will now be copied over to your iPhone.

American Company Sling Media have now rolled out the ability to watch TV on your Handheld Blackberry Device. News was released at this years Las Vegas Consumer Electronics Show. Blackberry users can now watch their TV on the go and anywhere in the world.

You might have heard of the Slingbox by Sling Media. The technology transmits a signal from you home television to your high speed broadband service. This will allow you to receive TV on your Blackberry, anywhere there is a broadband connection. Its been around since 2005, however the ability for it to be used with your Blackberry device has just come on to the market.

By downloading and installing the firms software called SlingPlayer onto your Blackberry, you will never miss watching your favorite TV program again. The software also allows you to control the Slingbox from wherever you are in the world. So if you forgot to set the timer to record Friday night football and you live in New York, but have flown to London for the weekend, well just use your Blackberry as a remote to record it back home, or better yet watch it there and then in hands.
