Steps

1. Disable the "Dial from Home Screen" option, which gives you the shortcut keys back. The option is accessed via "options" on the menu within the Phone/Call Log application.
   
2. Hit the spacebar and then the number keys to dial quickly. On some models spacebar doesn't work, use the green call button.
   
3. Enter the different applications by simply selecting the underline letter of their descriptions on the home screen (see Tips).
